Iowa Senator Joni Ernst continues her fight to keep the Obama-era Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule repealed.

At a recent Senate Environment and Public Works Committee hearing, Ernst pressed President Biden抯 nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency, Michael Regan, on his view of the Trump Administration抯 Navigable Waters Protection Rule that replaced WOTUS. Ernst also spoke on the issue at a telephone town hall event that she co-hosted with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.

揥hat we don抰 want to go back to is this heavy-handed overregulation by the federal government,?Ernst said. 揥hat we抮e trying to do is encourage the current administration to continue with the President Trump-era rules for navigable waters. In my experience with WOTUS, this is the one issue where all across Iowa everyone agreed it was a horrible overburdensome regulation from the Obama era.?/p>

Secretary Naig highlighted the widespread support from Iowa抯 farmers and agriculture community for the Trump Administration抯 Navigable Waters Protection Rule...

Denison, IA (February 18, 2021) ?During a visit to Crawford County, Iowa, on February 18th, Senator Joni Ernst made a stop in the county seat of Denison for a facility tour of Quality Food Processors (QFP). The food packing company is a producer of high-quality bacon products and is a major employer in the county.

Prior to a quick tour, the senator sampled some of the bacon products made at the facility. While touring the QFP facility, Senator Ernst was shown the bacon production process and how the top-quality food products are made and packaged. Also attending the event were officials with the City of Denison, Crawford County Board of Supervisors, and members of the Chamber & Development Council of Crawford County.

揑t was an honor to have Senator Ernst visit the Quality Food Processors facility and be able to see the great work that goes on here, including the fantastic job that our employees do,?said Eric Kohler, General Manager of Quality Food Processors. 揥e very much appreciate Senator Ernst and the other state and local officials for taking the time to stop by and learn more about our team and company.?

The dignitaries were informed about the company抯 recent accomplishments. They discussed other important topics and needs for the food packing industry and rural communities, such as the workforce. Senator Ernst commented on what her takeaway was from the tour.

揑t is vital that we maintain these facilities and the products that are so commonplace in our homes. It starts somewhere, and this is where it starts梛ust knowing and understanding our meat production and the lifecycle of our hogs, coming from our pork producers. Then, how it is brought into this facility, processed, and packaged into bacon,?said Senator Ernst. 揑t抯 good to know how it is processed and some of the challenges they [QFP] faced during COVID as well.?/p>

In late 2020, QFP received Sigma抯 Value Partner of the Year Award for its commitment to excellence and consistently providing quality products that assisted Sigma in being a Value Leader in the industry. QFP is a bacon supplier for Sigma抯 Bar-S Foods brand. The award is only given out to one Sigma supplier annually, and 2020 was the first time that QFP had been named Value Partner of the Year.

揑n light of all the challenges that the pandemic presents, we have an excellent group of individuals here that continues to do outstanding work, and I am proud of every one of our employees,?continued Kohler.

The company employs 240 dedicated workers, and QFP抯 success over the years is due to their efforts.
